Four Post Lift Accessories

If you’re a home / hobbyist looking for a Four Post Lift for storing one vehicle over another, or just for servicing your vehicles, you’ve got many choices out there. We carry three different manufacturers. Most lift manufacturers will have similar options when it comes to accessories.

Four Post Lift

When it comes to servicing your vehicles, the popular accessories would be the jack plate, air bridge jack and oil drain. The jack plate would stretch across from one runway to the other, and you would place a couple of bottle jacks, or scissor jacks on it, to correspond with the vehicle’s jacking points, so that you can access the vehicle’s wheels for brake work, etc…

An alternative to the jack plate is the air bridge jack. This would serve the same purpose as the jack plate, but integrates an air jack into it, making it much easier and more convenient to work with than the jack plate. It is truly a professional accessory.

If you’re using your car lift for servicing your car, then odds are, you’re going to be changing your oil from time to time. So an oil drain is almost a must-have item in this case. After all, you don’t want to have to hold a bucket over your head. There are many different oil drain options available. Some roll on the ground and have a long neck and a funnel on the top. Others roll up and down the length of the runways and remain mounted to the lift.

Oil Drain

Accessories that come in handy for your four post lift when using it for storing your cars would be the drip trays and caster kit.

The drip trays would rest in between the runways and are sold in sets of three. They are there to protect the car underneath from getting drips on them.

Since most home / hobby four post lifts are free standing, the optional caster kit would be used to roll the lift around your shop, or perhaps even out your Garage Door if it will fit. This makes your four post lift a truly portable lift. This is a handy feature that makes your lift more versatile.

These are just some of the more popular four post lift options. We will delve deeper into some more options in a future post.

Another ASEdeals.com Bahamas Car Lift Connection

We recently took a trip to the Carribean to check in with some of our customers there. We have distributed equipment to many customers on the islands and wanted to profile some of them for our Blog. It is interesting material to see who else out there across the globe has purchased these products, and what they think about it after the fact.

One of these customers is Easy Car Sales from the beautiful island of Nassau in the Bahamas. When Alan Wilson was opening his new car dealership about a year ago, he contacted Automotive Service Equipment. He heard about us through another customer of our’s down there – Rene Telle, from Telle’s Auto Body. Rene purchased several two post lifts from us over the course of the past few years. Because of our reputation, and BendPak’s reputation, his decision was easy. Alan decided on the XPR-10AC Two Post Liftby BendPak. It is the asymmetric, clearfloor model at 10,000 lbs. It has the features he wanted, at a very reasonable price. This model includes the ability to position the arms symmetric as well as asymmetric, for those situations where balancing the vehicle is a concern. It is a truly versatile lift.

Alan has been in the automotive business for almost 50 years and knows a good product when he sees it. His new dealership sells over 150 cars a month, which is a pretty brisk business for such a small island. He originally hails from England, but as you can see in the picture below, when you live in paradise, you don’t even need a roof over your head to service cars. The service bay area is wide open to enjoy the great weather that is only found in the Bahamas. It is recommended that you protect the power unit from moisture however, by placing some type of housing over it if you are using it outdoors.

Alan, (shown right) said, “The purchase was a painless process due to the expertise and advise provided from my salesman. The website was a great resource for reference material, including a dimensional drawing, and even the owner’s manual. Every effort was made to accommodate my needs, and the lift is a great product, and very reliable. ”

If you’re lucky enough to live in the Bahamas, stop by Easy Car Sales in Nassau and say Hi to Alan. He’ll set you up with a great deal on a quality car. Tell him you heard about them through ASEdeals.com

Two Post Lift

The Benefit of Asymmetric Two Post Lifts

One of the most common questions we get is, “What does it mean when a lift is asymmetric”?

When two post lifts were first introduced, the only kind available was symmetric. This is where the vehicle is centered on the lift and the same amount of the vehicle is in front of the post as is behind the posts. At some point, people grew weary of dinging the vehicle’s doors on the posts, and trying to squeeze out of the door when placing a vehicle on the lift.

That’s where the asymmetric models come in. Asymmetric models position the vehicle further back on the lift. typically about 2/3 of the vehicle is hanging behind the posts on an asymmetric lift. The benefit of this is that it allows you to open the doors wider to get in and out of the vehicle easier. Most people these days prefer an asymmetric lift.

Most vehicles actually balance out better on an asymmetric lift because they are typically so front heavy. The one drawback to an asymmetric lift however is that there are times when certain vehicles won’t balance out that well on an asymmetric lift. Typically, these would be vehicles that have much of their weight in the rear, like a rear engine car, or a van with a load in it, or an extra long crew cab, long bed truck. That’s why BendPak came out with their Tru-Metric  feature on their asymmetric lifts. This allows you to move the vehicle forward on the lift, to help it balance out better. This is truly an improvement on the traditional asymmetric two post lift. It makes for a much more versatile lift.

Some customers have questions about the positioning of a vehicle on the lift. The owner’s manual that comes with the lift includes general information on this subject matter, but if you want a great resource for more in-depth instruction and lift safety issues, we recomment checking out the informational store on the ALI web site. (Automotive Lift Institute).

Factors When Purchasing a Four Post Lift for Home Garage

Home Hobbyist customers who are considering a Four Post Lift always have many questions about what lift to get and what factors to consider when trying to determine which lift to get for their home garage.
Whether you are using it for storing one vehicle over another, or you are using it for servicing your cars, there are many details to base your decision on.
The First question we would ask you is, what type of vehicles are you parking on, and under it? If you are parking a tall vehicle underneath, we would steer you toward an extra high lifting model. If your storing a couple of sports cars one over another, the standard height model would work just fine.
How wide are the vehicles that you are parking on and under? We have some extra wide models with adjustable runways for SUV’s and full size trucks. We also have extra long models for your crew cab and extended cab trucks.
Take a good look at our dimensional drawings on our web site. They’re there for a reason. Measure twice and buy once. You don’t want to get the wrong lift for your application. Make sure it will fit in your garage. Make sure you have enough width, enough length, and enough ceiling height. We advise you of a simple formula that applies for most of our parking lifts. If your storing one vehicle over another, simply add the height of both vehicles, and then add ten inches to that figure. And that’s how tall your ceiling must be. Ceiling height is important, but don’t forget about any other obstructions that may be above, such as your garage door opener, light fixtures etc… There are kits out there that allow you to move your garage door track and opener closer to your ceiling if necessary.
Lets not forget about electric power requirements. Many Parking Lift models require 110v and some require 220v. So pay attention to that detail. 220v will be more powerful, while 110v is more readily available for most home garages.
Another consideration is your garage floor. It needs to be fairly level and free of cracks. Each type of lift will have different requirements, but most 7000 lb to 9000 lb four post lifts will require about 3.5 to 4 inches of concrete at about 2500 psi.
These are just some of the factors to consider when making a decision on your car lift. There are many others of course, including your budget, and ability to unload it from the delivery truck and install it. But those are subject matter for future posts, so stay tuned.
