One recent publication that approached us was Collector Car Market Review. They heard about the recent change at Deals on Wheels magazine. Deals on Wheels changed over to sa strictly on-line format. No more paper magazine. So CCMR smartly decided to approach all of the recent past advertisers of Deals On Wheels to entice them into a place to go to get back into the trade magazine ad business. Here is another post showing our customer Two Post Lift pictures. The latest set of pictures is provided by Sean Martinez from two locations, Tucson, AZ and McKinney, TX. We have touched on this subject in previous posts. Lost in the busy news week last week was an important story for the auto industry. The Obama administration just unveiled that they are mandating new fuel efficiency standards for automobiles that will raise the standards to require a much higher 54.5 miles per gallon by the year 2025. This is nearly double the current level. These standards are known as the CAFE standards (Corporate Average Fuel Economy).  The administration contends that this will not only decrease emissions, but will also help save drivers many dollars in fuel each year.

2025 may seem like a long way off, but some critics claim that these standards are unrealistic and will place a burden on auto makers as well as consumers. Estimates are that it will increase the price of a new car dramatically, as well as decrease safety. One of the ways automakers can meet these standards is to manufacture smaller, lighter vehicles, which means they are sacrificing safety. The NHTSA, (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has concerns that smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles will lead to increased injuries and fatalities during accidents. Due to increasing fuel efficiency requirements, some experts attribute 2500 more fatalities each year because of smaller, less safe cars that sacrifice safety because of less steel.

Critics argue that the market should dictate such standards. If the cost of fuel causes consumers to steer toward more fuel efficient cars, then that is the capitalist market working as it should without government meddling.

We told you in a previous post that we would be appearing on the very popular Two Guys Garage Television show found on the SPEED Channel.  We supplied them with a TTech TT500 Transmission Flusher that they proceeded to use to exchange the transmission fluid from a 2004 Corvette. 

 This Episode # 1007 just appeared last week and received a great reception by all accounts. The show has been appearing on the Speed Channel for several years now and enjoys a healthy audience of car enthusiasts and home / hobbyists along with serious professionals and technicians who want to learn the latest tips and tricks for auto repair.

We mentioned the Terrafugia flying car in a previous post. At that time, they had completed research and development and were seeking approval for use in the USA. News just came out that the flying car has been approved for use in the USA.

Just in time too. Traffic is increasing every year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has cleared the car for production, and the Terrafugia should begin production soon, and should begin distributing them in 2012.

This is also great news for the local economy in Massachusetts, where the plant that manufactures them is located. The hybrid road / aircraft has stipulations set forth by the NHTSA.  This aircraft is the first of it’s kind in many ways. It meets many requirements that no other has when it comes to highway / air travel. Most notable are the requirements that require tires that are suitable for highway speeds and a windshield that is shatterproof to prevent catastrophe from potentially flying through a flock of birds.

The wings fold up in about a minute when you’re ready for road travel. It has airbags for driver and passenger airbags, which might come in handy in road travel, but may not be quite as helpful when traveling by air.

Initial estimates for pricing by the manufacturer indicate that they expect this to hit the market at about $250,000. Obviously, budget is not the only reason most consumers will not be placing an order for one anytime soon. You’ll need a valid pilot’s license as well. We’re also not quite sure how you’ll fit one on a car lift when it needs to be serviced.
